Sample Essay on How the War on Drugs Could Be Made Into a Better Policy
Sample Essay on How the War on Drugs Could Be Made Into a Better PolicyIf you are in a search for a sample essay on how the war on drugs could be made into a better policy, then this is your answer. We have looked at how the United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world; we have looked at how we have the highest number of inmates in prisons of all countries, and we have looked at how our system of enforcement is a huge waste of money and time. Now, we will look at a solution to this problem. The solution lies in a new approach to crime and punishment. Rather than locking up the offender, let's make the offender an asset to society, a drug-free person who is involved in productive work that can be paid for by the government. Let's give them their own house and their own car. Let's give them a job where they can earn enough money to pay the cost of the state's incarceration. Allow the offender to keep their home and car while they are working for the government. This w ay, they will be better off and the costs of their incarceration will be paid for by the amount of taxes collected from them. People, instead of criminals, will be the government's best citizens. The essay I recommend can be used for example to show to legislators as an explanation of why a drug-free society is the best possible solution to the drug problem. It will help those who propose solutions to the drug problem. It will convince them that their solution is the only solution, rather than offering them a fraction of what the state would pay to people who follow the rules. It will create an emotional impact on lawmakers and on the public. The essay is also the same as when we make the case for original income. That is, it is the equivalent of an essay that using government resources to create an income that goes to someone other than the government. So, this is not just an essay about how the war on drugs could be made into a better policy. It is also an essay about how any real s olution to the drug problem will start with paying people for the use of their assets. If that was the solution, we would not be spending so much on prisons, jails, and drug-treatment centers. For people who like to argue or debate, I have a sample essay that can be used to educate the public. It is called 'Why Taxpayers Should Pay People to Help Them With Drug Abuse.' (By the way, it is an essay with a blank space, so you may fill in the blank as you like.) It can be used to educate lawmakers about why original income is the best policy for addressing the drug problem. It can also be used to show them why they should allow free income from assets as an alternative to the war on drugs.Have you ever thought of writing an essay? You can use this sample essay on how the war on drugs could be made into a better policy to teach yourself how to write an essay.

The History of Skyscrapers
The History of Skyscrapers The first skyscrapers- tall commercial buildings withà iron or steel frameworks- came about in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chicago Home Insurance Building, completed in 1885, is generally considered the first modern skyscraper, although it was only 10 stories high. Later, taller and taller buildings were made possible through a series of architectural and engineering innovations, including the invention of the first process to mass-produce steel. Today, the tallest skyscrapers in the world approach and even exceed heights of 2,000 feet. Skyscraper History A skyscraper is a tall commercial building with an iron or steel framework.à They were made possible as a result of the Bessemer process of mass production of steel beams.à The first modern skyscraper was created in 1885, the 10-story Chicago Home Insurance Building.Early extant skyscrapers include the 1891 Wainwright Building in St. Louis and the 1902 Flatiron Building in New York City.à First Skyscraper: Chicago Home Insurance Building The first tall building supported by structural steel was the Chicago Home Insurance Building, which was finished in 1885. The building was 10 stories tall and reached a height of 138 feet. Two additional stories were added in 1891, bringing the height to 180 feet. The building was demolished in 1931 and replaced with the Field Building, an even taller skyscraper with 45 stories. Early Skyscrapers The Flat Iron Building, NYC. Barry Neal/Getty Images Although the first skyscrapers were relatively small by todays standards, they marked an important turn in urban construction and development. Some of the most notable early skyscrapers were: Tacoma Building (Chicago): Constructed using a riveted iron and steel frame, the Tacoma Building was designed by the major architectural firm Holabird Root.Rand McNally Building (Chicago): The Rand McNally Building, completed in 1889, was the first skyscraper built with an all-steel frame. The Masonic Temple Building (Chicago): Featuring commercial, office, and meeting space, the Masonic Temple was completed in 1892. For a time it was the tallest building in Chicago.Tower Building (New York City): The Tower Building, completed in 1889, was the first skyscraper in New York City.American Surety Building (New York City): At 300 feet tall, this 20-story building broke Chicagos height record when it was completed in 1896.New York World Building (New York City): This building was home to the New York World newspaper.Wainwright Building (St. Louis): This skyscraper, designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan, is famous for its terracotta facade and ornamentation.Flatiron Building (New Yor k City): The Flatiron Building is a triangular, steel-frame marvel that still stands in Manhattan today. In 1989, it was made a National Historic Landmark. Mass Produced Steel Allows Construction of Skyscrapers Henry Bessemer. clu/Getty Images Construction of skyscrapers was made possible thanks to Henry Bessemer, who invented the first process to mass-produce steel inexpensively. An American, William Kelly, had held a patent for a system of air blowing the carbon out of pig iron, but bankruptcy forced Kelly to sell his patent to Bessemer, who had been working on a similar process for making steel. In 1855, Bessemer patented his own decarbonization process, utilizing a blast of air. This breakthrough opened the door for builders to start making taller and taller structures. Modern steel today is still made using technology based on Bessemers process. While ââ¬Å"the Bessemer processâ⬠kept Bessemerââ¬â¢s name well-known long after his death, lesser known today is the man who actually employed that process to innovate the first skyscraper: George A. Fuller.à In the 19th century, construction techniques called for outside walls to carry the load of a buildingââ¬â¢s weight. Fuller, however, had a different idea. He realized that buildings could bear more weight- and therefore soar higher- if he used Bessemer steel beams to give buildings a load-bearing skeleton on the inside of the building. In 1889, Fuller erected the Tacoma Building, a successor to the Home Insurance Building that became the first structure ever built where the outside walls did not carry the weight of the building. Using Bessemer steel beams, Fuller developed a technique for creating steel cages that would be used in subsequent skyscrapers. The Flatiron Buildingà was one of New York Citys first skyscrapers, built in 1902 by Fullers building company. Daniel H. Burnham was the chief architect. Taller buildings were also made possible by the invention of the electric elevator in 1883, which reduced the amount of time it took to travel between floors, and the invention of electric lighting, which made it easier to illuminate larger spaces. Chicago School of Architecture Many of the earliest skyscrapers were built in an architectural style that came be known as the Chicago School. These steel-frame structures often featured terra cotta exteriors, plate glass windows, and detailed cornices. Architects associated with the Chicago School include Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan (who designed the Old Chicago Stock Exchange Building), Henry Hobson Richardson, and John Wellborn Root. Buildings in the Chicago style were built in places as far away as Florida, Canada, and New Zealand.

Leadership & Communication in Health Care Service Organizations Essay
Leadership & Communication in Health Care Service Organizations - Essay Example Without communication, an organization will not be able to function well. Eventually, this will lead to underachievement of organizational goals considering that the success of an organization is highly influenced by the entire communication process involved. It is in line with this that this paper includes the discussion about leadership, motivation and communication in an organization. The proponent tries to apply the information in line with leadership functions and activities of managers and their influence on the successful performance particularly in health services organizations. Thus, some theories, concepts and terms related with leadership are included based on their association with a successful performance and goal attainment of the health care service organizations. Leadership There are many existing theories about leadership and these primarily include great man, trait, contingency, situational, behavioral, participative, management, and relationship (Cherry par. 1-8). All of these theories have important contribution in understanding the success of health care service organizations. ... Thus, they usually end up differentiating their services and product offerings. However, the implementation of this specific approach is not going to be easy. In fact, this highly involves specific leadership approach depending on the type of strategies at hand. Great man theories assume that leadership is innate and that every great leader is born not made and that they will rise above others if it is necessary, while trait theories state that leadership traits are innate among leaders (Cherry par. 1-2). These theories are believed to be very applicable in an organization before but today the fierce competition existing between health service organizations would require competent leaders based on experience and other relevant qualifications. Thus, it is in this reason that in order to have effective leadership activity, a certain health service organization must necessarily understand other modern leadership concepts. Todayââ¬â¢s leadership activity requires basic understanding o f both external and internal business environment. Thus, the remaining leadership theories are making sense on how exactly organizations are performing when it comes to their ability to apply the leadership concept. Contingency theories of leadership state that leaderââ¬â¢s response to leadership is affected by factors in the environment such as leadership style, followers and situational aspects (Cherry par. 3). Thus, there are some health service organizations today that try to give more emphasis on enhancing leadership style and character development of their staffs. Situational theories state that leaders choose the best course of action in situations that requires decision making (Cherry par.4).

Induced Hypothermia in Post Cardiac Arrest Essay
Induced Hypothermia in Post Cardiac Arrest - Essay Example Lowering the patient's core temperature to 32-34 C is typical and appropriate for post cardiac arrest according to Bernard & Buist (2003). The use of hypothermia as a means of cerebral protection became established in the early days of cardiac surgery, the time when it was shown that hypothermia could prolong the safe period of circulatory arrest. From then on, hypothermic-perfusion-actively cooling body temperature down to 28 to 32 degrees Celsius during post cardiac arrest has been favored by the majority of surgeons for both valve surgery and CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft). However, many surgeons argue that hypothermia is an unnecessary convention if systemic circulation is uninterrupted with the use of CPB (Cardiopulmonary Bypass and cerebral perfusion is assumed to be adequate. On one hand, the use of normothermicperfusion (maintaining body temperature at around 37 degrees or allowing to drift down without active cooling) has not produced any solid evidence from neither clinical practice nor prospective randomized trials. Hypothermia may also be induced for several medical purposes. ... A few trials have indicated that hypothermic perfusion may be beneficial and that normothermic perfusion is potentially harmful. Martin et al. (1994) were the first to report an increased rate of postoperative stroke, both early and late, in CABG patients randomized to normothermic perfusion (actively warmed to 35 degrees Celsius or higher). These findings have been questioned, because the use of retrograde cardioplegia in these patients could have increased the risk of cerebral embolism. More patients with neurologic deficits were also found in the group randomized to normothermia by Mora et al. (1996), although NP testing did not support a difference in outcome between the two groups. Only one study so far has suggested an effect of temperature on NP performance. Regragui et al. (1996) studied 70 patients randomized to three temperature groups: 28 C, 32 C, and 37 C. Normothermia was found to result in worse NP performance than the other two groups. However, both the small numbers of patients and the method of analysis of NP deterioration in the study caution against accepting this finding. The application of hypothermia in a post cardiac arrest may also protect the brain and spinal cord (Schepens et al. 1994). However, Colon R. et al. (1987) had found that it can also cause its own complications especially when the hypothermia is profound (Svensson et al. 1993). As an alternative, some surgeons like Gott (1972) have provided adjunctive intraoperative perfusion with temporary arterial shunts and partial extracorporeal bypass (Bloodwell et al. 1968) or retrograde cerebral perfusion during hypothermic circulatory arrest. Furthermore, there are other techniques that have been tried like the preoperative radiographic
